Sometimes you can get your point across even if the actors are speaking in jibberish… These actors are speaking in “fake English” designed to sound the way foreign speakers hear English. Somehow the story is compelling nonetheless…

Screening and Lecture Tonight! Just for SVA Students! Very Cool!

Filmmakers Dialogue is screening THE WAY, directed by Emilio Estevez and starring Martin Sheen.  The guest speaker is Executive Producer John Sloss, one of the world’s premier film sales agent and a great resource for SVA students and faculty. All are encouraged to attend. 

The screening/interview is tonight, Wednesday, 6:15 PM, at the SVA Theatre.  SVA ID cards are required for admission.

About the film:



John Sloss is the founder of Cinetic Media and the digital sales initiative, Cinetic Rights Management, which recently launched its branded Cable On Demand channel, FilmBuff.   He is also a managing partner and founder of the entertainment law firm Sloss Eckhouse Brennan LawCo LLP, all of which are based in New York City.  Additionally, he recently co-founded Producers Distribution Agency, the theatrical distributor of Banksy’s ‘Exit Through the Gift Shop.’

Through Cinetic Media, Sloss has facilitated the sale and/or financing of well over 200 films including Lee Daniels’ Precious, Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire, Lisa Cholodenko’s ‘The Kids Are All Right,’  Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Todd Haynes’ Bob Dylan project, I’m Not There, Sundance Film Festival hits including Napoleon Dynamite, Little Miss Sunshine, Under The Same Moon, and Super Size Me, and the high profile 2007 Cannes Film Festival sale of James Gray’s We Own The Night.  Sloss has executive produced over 50 films including the Academy Award-winning The Fog of War and Boys Don’t Cry, and Before Sunset and Far From Heaven. His law clients include Killer Films, Richard Linklater, Kevin Smith, Bob Dylan, John Hamburg, Morgan Spurlock, Justin Lin, Jake Kasdan, the Isle of Man’s CinemaNX and Big Beach Films. Prior to founding Sloss Law Office in 1993, Sloss was a partner at the international law firm Morrison & Foerster.  Sloss received his J.D. and B.A. from the University of Michigan.  He lives in New York with his daughter Loulou and son Henry.

Tonight is one of the last rooftop films events of the season … and this program looks like a pretty excellent showcase of work by the participants in this years ifp labs program
